The Department of Linguistics seeks to fill a number of full-time Teaching Assistant positions for the 2020 Winter academic sessions. UBC BA/MA/PhD students are eligible to apply to assist with the following courses:

Please note that the above listed TA positions are dependent on Department of Linguistics budgetary approval. Some positions may be appointed at 50% (half-time), with duties and salaries reduced accordingly.

 

Qualifications: At a minimum, the applicant must have successfully completed courses in programing, probability and/or statistics, and calculus, and coursework relevant to the particular course(s) applying for. Coursework in Linguistics theory (LING 300, 311, 313, 327) would also be an asset.

 

Duties: TAs may be required, at a minimum, to mark, attend classes, lead tutorials, advise students, hold office hours, and on occasion provide instruction in the courses to which they have been assigned.

 

Hours of work: Varies by course, up to 12 hours per week for 4 weeks (48 hours) for a full TA position for each one block course. Please note that TA positions can range from 50% to 100%, with hours and duties scaled accordingly.

 

Salary:

Undergraduate Students: UTA 1 $20.33/hour, $975.75 per month at 100%
Gradudate Students: GTA 1 $34.44/hour, $1,652.99 per month at 100%, or GTA 2 $33.14/hour, $1,590.62 per month at 100%, depending on experience
