Former linguistics grad student and current doctorate-holder Stanley Nam successfully defended his doctoral dissertation on June 22. Its title is “Learning a Phonologically Partitioned Lexicon.” Stanley’s joint dissertation supervisors were Drs. Kathleen Currie Hall and Gunnar Ólafur Hansson, and the third member of the supervisory committee was Dr. Miikka Silfverberg, who joined the defence virtually from Helsinki, Finland. The university examiners were Dr. Márton Sóskuthy and Dr. Ross King (UBC Asian Studies), and the external examiner was Dr. Jongho Jun of Seoul National University.
