Cross-Linguistic Semantics Research Group

This research group (led by Lisa Matthewson and Hotze Rullmann) investigates issues in semantics or pragmatics from a crosslinguistic perspective. Recent topics include modality, evidentiality, tense, and aspect.

Students and faculty are working on a range of languages including Kwak’wala, Okanagan, Blackfoot, Ktunaxa, Gitxsan, Tlingit, Atayal, Nivacle, Nata, Siamou, Shona, Nuu-chah-nulth, Plains Cree, Yorùbá, Stát’imcets, French (Old French, Middle French, Modern French), Javanese, Japanese, and English.
