Linguistics and language research in industry
Your graduate training and expertise have value in industry, but it’s not always clear what non-academic careers or research look like or how to translate what you do at a university to what you might work on in another setting. In this talk, I’ll discuss my academic profile and research experiences, as well as the kind of research activities linguists and language scientists like me pursue at Duolingo. I’ll also outline how my graduate training prepared me for a job in industry, how I’ve made up for the skills I didn’t have, and what you can do to position yourself for opportunities outside of academia. This talk will be framed as an informal conversation, so there will be ample time for discussion and questions!
