About

My name is Line (/laɪn/). I am a Master’s student in linguistics, broadly interested in phonetics and sociolinguistics. Currently I’m interested in better understanding what information about an individual’s social identity is conveyed by their voice, how individuals may use their voices to express themselves socially, and how this aligns (or not) with the social features different listeners attribute to the voices they hear. My Master’s thesis research focuses on understanding within-gender phonetic variation in the speech of women, men, and non-binary individuals.
