Doctoral program alumnus and UBC Swahili lecturer Joash Gambarage was been awarded the inaugural Public Engagement Award from UBC’s Public Humanities Hub. The award recognizes his efforts as a regional ambassador for the Swahili language. He was instrumental in organizing UBC’s Swahili classes, has led Swahili language camps for kids, and help persuade the BC government to declare June 22 Swahili Community Day. Congratulations, Joash!
