Sav Nijeboer is our new manager of administration

The department has a new manager of administration: Sav Nijeboer. She takes over the role of the already much-missed Vicki Ferguson.

Sav completed her BSc in Behavioural Neuroscience at UBC in 2012 and joined Janet Werker’s language acquisition lab shortly thereafter.  She is already known to many of us, having been involved in several interdepartmental research collaborations and in helping to support the Language Sciences and related initiatives (e.g., ‘Ensuring Full Literacy’ SSHRC Partnership and CFI). As Research Manager of the lab since 2016, Sav brings experience in overseeing finances, HR, and facilities, and in effectively leading teams of staff and trainees. Her management of the broader Early Development Research Group has fostered a deep understanding of the challenges typically faced by faculty members, to which she brings her characteristically upbeat, problem-solving mindset. On a more personal note, Sav was born and raised in Manitoba—and indeed, her (Dutch) prairie roots appear frequently in her food and fashion choices. She settled in Vancouver in 2010 and considers herself a “UBC lifer”. When not working and drinking black tea, Sav is likely to be found at the Kits dog beach, swimming with her husband and their Scottish Terrier, Finn.

Welcome, Sav!
