Phonetics

Phonetics in the department is for graduate students who are interested in studying speech and language from an interdisciplinary perspective.

In studying phonetics at UBC, you are trained to ask and answer theoretically meaningful questions about spoken and signed language from an interdisciplinary perspective using a broad range of cutting-edge empirical tools. Covering a wide array of methods, you are encouraged to integrate phonetically-based research questions with other disciplines, within and outside of linguistics. You will be taught by experts on speech perception, articulatory dynamics and the emergence of speech patterns.
