Starting in the 2026/2027 academic year, the UBC Linguistics department will be granting a new annual award, the International Mother Language Day Award in Linguistics. This yearly award of $2000, made possible through a gift from Mother Language Lovers of the World Society, will be awarded to graduate students in the Department of Linguistics who have demonstrated an interest in mother languages and community involvement.
